01 / Overview
About this movement
This variation adds a resistance band to a prone lumbar extension pattern. The band changes the loading and feedback, so exact placement and control matter.
02 / Technique
How to perform End Range Lumbar Extension With Band
- Start lying face down on a mat, with the band positioned and secured exactly as shown in the demonstration.
- Place your hands near your shoulders and initiate a controlled press-up.
- Allow the trunk to move into a tolerable extension range without forcing the position.
- Pause briefly at your comfortable end range, then lower slowly.
03 / Coaching cues
Make every rep count
- Confirm the band is secure before moving.
- Keep shoulders relaxed and avoid jerking into the top position.
- Compare how you feel during and after repetitions, especially if leg symptoms are present.
04 / Programming
How to use it
Begin with a few slow, comfortable repetitions; progress only when the added resistance is appropriate.
Movement note: Resisted end-range extension is not suitable for everyone with back or leg symptoms. Stop if symptoms spread farther down the leg or neurologic symptoms develop.

Common questions
Do I need the band to do lumbar extensions?
No. The unbanded version is generally the simpler movement to learn first.
Should I push through a sharp pinch?
No. Reduce range or stop and get guidance rather than forcing end range.
Educational exercise information only. It does not replace individualized assessment or treatment. Stop if symptoms worsen or unusual neurologic symptoms occur.
