About this movement
This prone lumbar extension drill uses your arms to support a controlled press-up while the pelvis stays close to the mat. It is similar to a press-up commonly used in extension-based movement testing.
How to perform End Range Lumbar Extension
- Lie face down with hands near shoulder level.
- Press through your hands to raise your chest while keeping the hips and pelvis relaxed near the mat.
- Move slowly toward a comfortable extension range without forcing a sharp pinch.
- Lower your torso back down and repeat with control.
Make every rep count
- Allow the arms to assist the motion.
- Keep glutes and shoulders relaxed as much as possible.
- Monitor whether leg symptoms move toward or away from the spine.
How to use it
Begin with 5–10 smooth repetitions if the movement is appropriate and well tolerated.
