A Better Way to Approach Rehab

Achilles rehab needs more than rest and random heel raises.

Achilles tendon symptoms are often stubborn because tendon loading, recovery, and running demands need to progress together—not just because the calf feels tight.

The Achilles Tendinopathy Recovery System tackles the practical questions: How do you load a sensitive tendon? When do you increase calf strength? What changes for insertional versus midportion symptoms? When is it reasonable to add jumping and running?

Each phase has a clear purpose, exercise plan, symptom-monitoring guidance, and criteria to help determine whether the next demand is appropriate.

Who This Program Is For

Built for people ready to rebuild Achilles capacity.

Designed for a typical midportion or insertional Achilles tendinopathy presentation, with modifications based on symptom location and tolerance.

✓

This may be a good fit if…

  • Morning Achilles stiffness or pain at the back of the heel or along the tendon limits activity.
  • Walking, running, hills, jumping, or training currently aggravate your symptoms.
  • You want to progress straight-knee and bent-knee calf strength with a practical plan.
  • You understand that improving tendon capacity takes consistent, symptom-guided loading.
  • Your goal is to rebuild running and maintain calf strength over the long term.
!

Start with an in-person evaluation if…

  • You felt a sudden pop or snap, developed sudden marked weakness, or cannot push off normally (possible rupture).
  • You have significant trauma, marked bruising or swelling, new inability to bear weight, or rapidly worsening symptoms.
  • You have pronounced redness, warmth, fever, unexplained swelling, or notable numbness or weakness.
  • Your symptoms may be from a different diagnosis, or you need an individualized evaluation and plan.

Two Tracks. One Recovery System.

Your symptoms' location changes how loading begins.

The main phases are shared, but the movement range and early exercise choices are adjusted to respect where the tendon is most sensitive.

01

Midportion Achilles

Typically felt several centimeters above the heel bone. Progress calf work and available ankle motion based on pain and the next-morning response.

  • Gradually build gastrocnemius and soleus strength.
  • Increase load and range when current work is tolerated.
  • Return to elastic loading and running when criteria are met.
02

Insertion / Compression-Sensitive

Symptoms at or near the heel insertion may be sensitive to compression when the ankle bends deeply upward.

  • Initially keep heel-raise loading on level ground if deeper range is provocative.
  • Temporarily limit irritating heel-drop positions and aggressive dorsiflexion stretching.
  • Reintroduce range and higher demand progressively as tolerated.

The two paths are educational guides, not a self-diagnosis tool. Unsure which problem you have? An in-person assessment is appropriate.

The Recovery System

Four phases. One clear progression.

Progress from tolerable basic loading to heavier calf work, elastic demands, running, and performance—using symptom response and readiness criteria instead of a rigid deadline.

01
Phase 1

Reduce Irritability + Restore Basic Loading

Start with manageable calf and soleus loading, movement, and smart adjustments to aggravating daily activities. Use your symptom-location track to select the appropriate initial range.

02
Phase 2

Build Calf + Achilles Capacity

Progress heavier straight-knee and bent-knee calf work with repeatable A/B sessions, controlled single-leg work, and tolerance-based progression.

03
Phase 3

Restore Elastic Loading + Return to Running

Bridge strength into pogos, jumping and other elastic demands, then begin the structured 5-to-25-minute running progression when appropriate.

04
Phase 4

Return to Full Running + Performance

Build toward consistent mileage, hills, higher-speed efforts and sport demands while keeping a sustainable calf-strength maintenance plan.

Personal Progress Dashboard

See the trend instead of reacting to one bad day.

Your member course includes a private Achilles progress tracker to help you follow the bigger trend across weeks.

Record your current phase, symptom location, morning symptoms, walking and running tolerance, separate straight-knee and bent-knee calf loads, and whether you feel better, the same, or worse.

For your personal tracking only. Entries are not routinely monitored or reviewed by Elite Performance Institute, and saving an entry does not request individualized advice or feedback.

Return to Running

Feeling better is only part of it. Rebuild what running asks of your Achilles.

The Achilles tendon has to manage repeated loading, including faster and springier demands that simple calf raises cannot completely reproduce.

Our framework combines progressive calf strength, elastic-loading preparation, and 18 years of coaching track & field athletes to organize the return to running, hills, speed work, and normal training.

THE FRAMEWORK

Build the demands of running back in the right order.

01

Restore Easy Running

Start with symptom-tolerable easy running only when strength, impact response, and phase criteria support it.

02

Build Consistent Running

Use the initial 5 → 10 → 15 → 20 → 25 minute progression, then develop frequency and normal training volume gradually.

03

Reintroduce Higher Demands

Layer hills, longer runs, faster workouts and speed back in without increasing every training variable at once.

18 Years coaching
track & field

There is no automatic finish date: the next step depends on how the tendon responds during activity and the following morning, along with strength and impact tolerance.

Why the Program Is Built This Way

Research-informed. Coaching-tested. Clinically shaped.

The program draws on current midportion Achilles guidance, research on insertional tendon compression, and practical progressive-loading principles for return to sport.

The research informs how loading should be adjusted; coaching and clinical experience shape the steps into a usable system for real training schedules.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions before you start?

Here are the most important things to know before purchasing the program.

Is this just a list of Achilles exercises?

No. It is a four-phase, criteria-based system covering symptom and load monitoring, calf/soleus strength, elastic loading, return to running, activity modifications, and a personal tracker.

Does this cover both midportion and insertional Achilles symptoms?

Yes. There are midportion and insertional / compression-sensitive options within one course. Compression-sensitive positions may need to be limited early, especially deep heel-drop stretching or heel raises off a step.

Do I have to stop running completely?

Not necessarily. It depends on symptom irritability, function, recent training, and the next-morning response. The program explains how to modify activity and rebuild running when the current phase and criteria support it.

How long will it take?

There is no fixed timeline or guaranteed outcome. Tendon adaptations typically require weeks to months. This course advances through criteria rather than a promised number of days.

Do I need specialized equipment?

No specialized machine is required. You may use stable household supports, a step when appropriate, and progressively heavier weights or a loaded backpack; the Equipment lesson discusses options and modifications.

Will someone at Elite Performance Institute review my tracker?

No. It is for personal self-monitoring. Saving an entry does not send a message or request individualized medical advice, treatment, or clearance.

Is Runner Resiliency mandatory?

No. It is an optional strength module. Achilles-specific calf work, progressive tendon loading, and return-to-running decisions remain the priority.

When should I be evaluated in person?

Seek urgent assessment after a sudden pop, loss of push-off strength, or concern for a rupture. Marked swelling, bruising, redness, fever, inability to bear weight, neurologic symptoms, unusual pain, or worsening symptoms also require appropriate evaluation.

Is the purchase refundable?

Self-guided digital program purchases are subject to the Elite Performance Institute Terms of Use and Refund Policy. Review those policies before purchasing.
