01 / Overview

About this movement

This seated lumbar flexion exercise uses a stable chair to explore a comfortable forward-bending range. The seated position makes it easy to modulate how far you move.

02 / Technique

How to perform End Range Lumbar Flexion

  1. Sit on a sturdy chair with feet planted and knees comfortably apart.
  2. Slowly lean the trunk forward, allowing the spine to flex within a comfortable range.
  3. Keep the movement smooth and avoid bouncing into the bottom position.
  4. Return upright with control and repeat.
03 / Coaching cues

Make every rep count

  • Let the movement come from a controlled forward bend, not a sudden drop.
  • Keep both feet grounded for balance.
  • Stop if radiating leg symptoms or sharp pain increases.

Common questions

Is this the same as a seated hamstring stretch?

No. The focus here is controlled spinal flexion rather than isolating the hamstrings.

Do I need to touch the floor?
