About this movement

This prone extension drill is intended to explore upper-back extension. Keep the movement deliberate and avoid using the low back as the only source of motion.

How to perform End Range Thoracic Extension

  1. Lie face down on a mat and position your hands for support as shown in the demonstration.
  2. Press gently through the hands while lengthening through the chest.
  3. Direct the movement through the midback rather than collapsing into a hard low-back arch.

Common questions

How is this different from a lumbar press-up?

The intent is to emphasize upper-back extension rather than maximizing low-back extension.
