In this video, you will learn how to do swiss ball hip hikes for gluteus medius by Dr. Brian Damhoff.
The gluteus medius is an important muscle for hip stability. In simple terms, it controls the leveling and unleveling of the hips making it a really important muscle amongst others for runners. A research study done in 2018 (https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/0363546518793657) found that for every 1 degree in pelvic drop, there was an 80% increase in the odds of being classified as injured. And, that’s one of many reasons why glute med and hip stability are so important for runners!
The great part about a swiss ball is that it provides unlimited resistance! When performing the hip hikes, you should really aim to put the swiss ball to work and really drive that hip up and into the ball to maximize the exercise.
