In this video, you will learn how to do the sideline hip abduction exercise by Dr. Brian Damhoff that targets the glute med muscle.

1. Lay flat on the ground with your bottom leg bent
2. While keeping your hips stacked, bring your leg up to a comfortable position and hold
3. Then you can bring the leg back down, relax for a second or two and reset

When people try to perform hip abduction exercises, it is common for the TFL to fire up. To alleviate that, you can keep your foot internally rotated and bring your leg slightly posterior as you bring it up. If you want to progress the exercise, you can do the same thing wearing a leg weight on your ankle.
