All have to do is be still, YOUR BRAIN does everything. – The Anicca Float Club Team
When I first heard of float therapy, my first thought was, I have to lay still for an hour? I thought, I can’t shut my brain off for 30 seconds let alone an hour, I’m not much of a fan of water, I hate not moving, will I sink instead of float? But, the more I researched and looked into it, the more I realized that floating was exactly what I needed to do with my busy lifestyle!! So what does float therapy offer for benefits?
According to http://www.floatnaperville.com/why-float/
We are constantly stimulated. Floating gives you stimulus free quiet time that you cannot achieve any place else. This is critical for your body to detox, recharge and heal.
Additional Benefits Include:
- Reduce Stress
- Improve Mental Clarity
- Speed muscle recovery
- Relieve inflammation
- Sensory Deprivation
- Sleep Better
- Eliminate fatigue and jet lag
- Lower Cortisol Levels
- Replenish Magnesium
- Relieve Chronic Pain
- Decompress the spine
You don’t have to be a doctor to know that those type of benefits are great! So what’s a float therapy session like? Upon arrival at the AniccA Float Club, I was welcomed warmly by the owners Lindsay and Paul. Lindsay then showed me to my room and went over everything I would need to know about the float. She did a great job and when she left, I felt very comfortable about the process. I put in my ear plugs, took a shower, then stepped into the float tank. Since I don’t like water (I can’t even swim!), the first 30 seconds my mental state was anything but calm. But then, I started to relax and breathe! My brain was running a million miles an hour like it usually is so I really focused on taking some deep diaphragm breathes. After a short time, or what felt like a short time, I was in an ultra relaxed state. I was so relaxed, I felt like I couldn’t move my arms. Before I knew it, I heard the sound of soft music signaling that the 60 minute float session was almost over. I had to decipher whether the music was real or not as I was in such a relaxed state. When the lights came on, I went to step out of the float tank and that’s when I realized how relaxed all my muscles felt. I started to palpate some structures that had previously been very tense on me and I was surprised to find how relaxed they were. I took my post float shower and headed out to the beautiful and calm foyer to sit upon a relaxing couch and sip some water. As I write this blog, it is 24 hours post float and I still feel ultra relaxed and like I have the ability to focus better.
At present, there are only 2 float facilities in Illinois. One of these is downtown Chicago and one of these is located right here in Naperville. I think that floating is great for athletes, high stress individuals, people in pain, basically anyone with a few exceptions. If you’re anything like me, you’re always on the go, thinking about your busy life and busy schedule. The world we live in is full of stress so the more things we can do to de-stress and detox from the world, the better! If you’re interested in learning more about the AniccA Float Club, I highly suggest you check out their informative website and certainly I’d suggest giving floating a shot to see for yourself!
